The Most Delicious Donut Recipes That You Won’t Believe Are Good For You

Whether you are cutting out gluten because you have celiac disease or because you’re hoping to reap the clear health benefits, finding delicious baked treats to eat can be incredibly frustrating. You check every recipe and every ingredient list, each time you do you discover that gluten has found its way into nearly everything!

To make things easier for you, this is a list of four gluten-free donut recipes. Each of these recipes will allow you to reap the digestive health benefits of your diet. These recipes avoid processed foods that contain chemicals and artificial flavors. So next time you’ve got a sweet tooth craving don’t worry, you’ll have four new treats to try.

Coconut Flour Fried Donuts

The word fried is full of negative connotations, however, if you use healthier oils such as coconut or grapeseed there is no need for it to be. These little donuts are the best way to enjoy sweet fried goods without breaking from a healthy diet.

Prep time: 20 minutes

Cook time: 15 minutes

Servings: 10 donuts

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup coconut flour

  • 1/4 cup Swerve Sweetener

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1/4 teaspoon stevia

  • oil (for frying, coconut, grapeseed, etc.)

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened shredded dried coconut (lightly toasted)

  • 1/4 cup Swerve Sweetener 

Directions:

Donuts

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F and grease a donut pan well.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the coconut flour, sweetener, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Stir in eggs, coconut oil, almond milk, vanilla and stevia until well combined and the batter is smooth.

  4. Fill wells in donut pan about 2/3 full

  5. Bake about 16 minutes, or until set and just barely brown around the edges.

  6. Remove from oven and cool 5 minutes in the pan.

Coconut Topping

  1. In a large skillet, add oil so it is about 1/2 inch deep – heat over medium heat.

  2. While oil is heating, combine toasted coconut and powdered sweetener in a medium bowl.

  3. Once the oil is hot, add 5 or 6 donuts to the pan. Flip after 1 to 2 minutes, and cook the other side for another minute.

  4. Remove from the pan and quickly dip each side in the coconut coating, pressing lightly to adhere.

  5. Allow them to cool.

Baked Pumpkin Doughnuts with Coconut Maple Caramel Glaze

A donut recipe on this list that is not only gluten-free but it is also a vegan one. It is difficult to believe that such a delightful donut could be free of both gluten and animal product! The taste of the pumpkin flavor compliments the coconut maple caramel glaze perfectly to create a fantastic treat.

Cook time: 10 minutes

Servings: 12 donuts

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups Gluten Free Flour

  • ½ cup beet sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1/3 cup canned pumpkin

  • 2 tablespoons butter oil (melted)

  • ½ cup coconut milk

  • ½ cup beet sugar

  • ¼ cup coconut milk

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil

  • 1 teaspoon maple extract

  • pinch of salt

  • finely chopped pecans if desired

Directions:

Donuts

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients.

  2. In a small bowl, combine the wet ingredients and then add them to the dry ingredients. Mix well until you have a thick batter.

  3. Add the batter to a greased doughnut pan or mini doughnut baker.

  4. Bake 8-10 minutes at 350°F in the oven.

Coconut Maple Caramel Glaze

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the sugar, coconut, coconut oil, maple, and salt.

  2. Bring to a simmer and cook about 4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  3. Dip the doughnuts in the glaze and garnish with pecans if desired.

Grain Free Apple Donuts

Another example of how eating donuts doesn’t have to be unhealthy. The sweetness of the fruit and maple will make you wonder why all healthy food can’t be so tasty.

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 15 minutes

Servings: 8 donuts

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups blanched almond flour

  • 1/4 cup tapioca flour

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 2 tablespoons gluten-free cornstarch (free baking powder)

  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup

  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 2 tablespoons butter oil (melted)

  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

  • 1 apples (medium, peeled and finely grated., I used THIS to grate mine)

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 cup apple juice (unpasteurized, fresh)

  • 1 teaspoon tapioca flour

  • 1 pinch cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a donut pan  with butter or coconut oil.

  2. Combine the dry ingredients.

  3. Whisk together the syrup, vanilla, butter or coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, grated apple and eggs, then add to the dry ingredients and stir to combine.

  4. Distribute the batter evenly into the molds, then bake for 12-14 minutes, until golden brown.

Apple Drizzle

  1. Add the juice and tapioca flour to a saucepan.

  2. Cook over medium heat until boiling, then reduce heat a bit and cook for a few more minutes until it is slightly thickened. If you want a thicker glaze, you can add a bit more tapioca starch.

  3. Remove from oven, allow to cool for a few minutes.

  4. Cool for 5 minutes, then drizzle with the apple juice glaze.

Chocolate Strawberry Donut

Every donut list needs a delightfully decadent finish. The chocolate strawberry donut is the perfect way to do exactly that. No gluten, just a pure ecstasy of taste that every celiac sufferer should try.

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 25 minutes

Servings: 6 donuts

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups almond flour/meal

  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 tablespoon coconut flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • a pinch of salt

  • ¼ cup honey

  • ¼ cup coconut oil, melted

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 4 eggs

  • ⅔ cups fresh strawberries, sliced

  • ¾ cup dark chocolate chips

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F degrees.

  2. Sift together almond flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, coconut flour, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl.

  3. Then add the honey, coconut oil, vanilla, and eggs. Mix well.

  4. Then fold in diced strawberries and chocolate chips.

  5. Grease your donut pan with some coconut oil and pour the donut batter into the pan.

  6. Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes.

  7. Let cool.

  8. Additional: mix together coconut oil and melted chocolate and slowly drizzle over the donuts.
