3 Essential Oils You Should Inhale Right Before Bed to Make Lucid Dreaming Easy

Dreaming is different for everybody. For some people, dreaming is an escape from reality that allows them to take full control of the world around them. For others, it is a distorted, chaotic realm that they just want to wake up from. Some people don’t even dream at all!

However, if you’re one of the people who feel that they have little to no control over their dreams, then you may want to consider looking into lucid dreaming.

What is Lucid Dreaming?

Simply put, lucid dreaming is the ability to consciously observe or even control your surroundings when you dream. Commonly recorded examples include the ability to shape the environment around you and to fly, however in theory it is only limited to the lucid dreamer’s imagination.

There are many different techniques out there that can help you lucid dream, however one of the most underrated techniques is through the use of essential oils. This is why I’m going to show you the three best essential oils for lucid dreaming.

Lavender

Among lavender’s many benefits include the ability to help you fall into a state of deeper sleep faster, which will aid you in your lucid dreaming endeavors. Lavender is well known for its sweet, floral scent, which many experts attribute its sleep-aiding powers to. Smelling lavender has been shown to decrease heart rate and blood pressure, and one study even found that individuals who sniffed lavender before bed had a deeper sleep as well as increased energy in the morning.

Jasmine

Jasmine is also know for its sweet, flowery scent, and provides similar calming effects that lavender does. One study conducted by researchers at the Wheeling Jesuit University found that jasmine is almost as effective as conventional sleeping aids. Researchers found that individuals who inhaled jasmine’s scent before going to sleep had deeper, more restful sleeps and woke up more alert with higher energy levels as well. They also found that it was effective at reducing anxiety.

Sandalwood

Sandalwood has been used in India for centuries for its calming properties and its ability to relieve tension. One study focused on the effects that one of the natural compounds found in sandalwood, called santalol, had on the sleeping patterns of certain individuals. Researchers found that the test subject’s sleeping patterns were markedly improved after sniffing sandalwood. They also found that it had a significant effect regardless if the individual was able to smell it or not, meaning that as long as santalol molecules were found in the bloodstream it was able to improve ones sleeping pattern.

Getting a deep sleep is necessary for lucid dreaming, as reaching the REM stage of sleep allows for more extensive and detailed dreams. This makes these essential oils effective dream aids as well as sleep aids. Other ways that you can lucid dream include keeping a “dream journal” and practicing certain concentration techniques before falling asleep.
