15 ways to painlessly help your body remove toxins

Don’t worry this isn’t another crazy starve-yourself-type-cleanse that involves drinking disgusting concoctions and trying weird exercises on a daily basis. These eye-opening cleansing tips are pain-free and easy to do amongst your daily business!

Drink Water!

glass of water

Water is indeed the elixir of life. It’s everywhere and easy to get your hands on so stop skimping on the drinking and get it down you! It is vital for every single cell, organ and system (1) going on in your body and makes up for almost half of your body weight! It also aids in digestion, cushions your joints and helps maintain a steady body temperature. So you can understand why it’s such a big deal.

Some top tips to stay hydrated throughout the day:

  • Drink a glass of room temperature water as soon as you wake up

  • Carry around a bottle of water everywhere you go

  • Flavor your water! Add lemon to it, it’s delicious and has even more health benefits!

  • Eat food with high water contents, such as; grapes, cucumber, watermelon, celery, etc.

Meditate

Meditation is an excellent way to calm your brain and body down to a resting situation, without turning off into sleep mode. It doesn’t quite count when you have the tv on, and you’re lying on the couch because your brain may still be going a million miles an hour. By taking 10-20 minutes out of your day to sit in a comfortable position without any distractions, you can help improve the symptoms of:

  • Pain

  • High Blood Pressure

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

  • Anxiety, depression, and insomnia

  • Quitting smoking (3)

Drink Dandelion Greens!

Sounds odd, doesn’t it? Dandelion greens! What even are they? Well, dandelion greens are the leaves off of the dandelion flower, they are an excellent way to detox your liver and kidneys (4). They’re high in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, antioxidants, iron, and calcium but low in calories (5)!

How to use them: Add them to your smoothie, see video below! Or find the recipe for a life-changing tonic here!

Dry Brushing and Rebounding

Improve your lymphatic system with dry brushing and rebounding! Your lymphatic system ‘works to protect the body from cancer cells and microorganisms. The organs of the lymphatic system include the thymus, bone marrow, spleen, and tonsils. Paired lymph nodes and lymphatic tissues are distributed throughout the body’ (7). So let’s get that lymphatic system working harder!

Dry Brushing is the process of running a brush in continuous, circular motions across your skin, upwards towards your heart. To ensure cleansing, add in some rebounding to your days to make your brushing efforts worthwhile. Rebounding is just any form of light aerobic exercise such as using a skipping rope or jumping on a trampoline.

Hydrotherapy

You’re going to want to do this after dry brushing and rebounding for optimal results. All you have to do is hop in the shower and alternate between hot and cold water with 1-2 minutes of hot and 30 seconds of cold. The cold might be shocking at first! In that case just use lukewarm water to try and adjust to the extreme changes. Remember to always end on cold!

Hydrotherapy can:

  • Increase blood circulation

  • Increases amount of endorphins

  • Enhances circulation

  • Enhances immune system

  • Heals injured tissue (that’s why athletes like to have ice baths!) (8)

Exercise

Qi = life force and vital energy. Gong = accomplishment or skill. Qi Gong = Cultivating energy. ‘Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention’ (9). It is one of the best ways to find relief from anxiety and cultivate inner peace. Even taking 10 minutes out of your day to do qi gong or a similar exercise will boost your productivity and mental performance.

Watch the following video for a 10 minute Qi Gong exercise routine you can try at home!

And…Stretch

Stretching is a great way to keep your joints and muscles young, it is especially important to take time out of your day every day to stretch as you get older; ‘As with all types of exercise, you need to engage in stretching regularly to reap lasting benefits’ (10). Try these great stretching techniques you can do anywhere!

Bone Broth

You’ve probably only ever associated bone broth with someone like your grandma, who seems to be oddly obsessed with the whole idea. But they have a good reason to be! Bone broth is high in minerals and nutrients; it’s great for your digestive system and a good pick-me-up for when you’re feeling down in the dumps. Here is a delicious recipe to kick start your day like it’s never been kick started before!

Turn Off the News

Try turning off the TV and especially avoid watching the news. Like any other industry, the report is focused on money making and selling stories that they think the public want to here. Listening to the negative news all of the time will get you down, try switching that noise off!

Sound Therapy

Sound therapy is a relatively new technique used for any different reasons and in many different ways. One of the most common uses of sound in medicine is an ‘ultrasound.’ You’ve probably only heard of it about looking at unborn babies. However, ultrasound can be used to heal broken tissue and for improve scarring (14). Sound therapy can also be used to de-stress and doesn’t involve any unusual equipment like an ultrasound machine!

We are always hearing noises, and our ears are constantly becoming less and less sensitive to different pitches, many people are unable to hear as well as they could when they were younger. (21) To try and improve these senses sound therapy can be used. Here is an example you can listen to open up your hearing.

Musical Therapy

It’s all about feeling good….next time you’re not feeling too good about yourself put on some uplifting tunes to get you going again! Musical Therapy ‘is the skillful use of music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health’ (15). So get those boogy- tunes on!

Pet Therapy

Animals can have effects on people like no other thing can. Bringing smiles to people’s faces and showing unconditional love. Pet therapy can be a great way to de-stress or to help educate young children and adolescents. The ‘Interaction with companion animals can involve values, morals, modes of behavior, attitudes, self-examination, the even establishment of new or improved skills’ (16).

So whether you just need something to show you some unconditional love and give you a cuddle at the end of your working day or if you want to teach your children some good behavior skills then pet therapy is a superb way to do so!

Steam Therapy

Our sinuses go through a lot. They process everything that we breathe in throughout the day ‘Your sinuses are air-filled chambers located in the bones of your face. Each of us has four sinuses cavities. Each cavity is lined by a membrane that produces mucus’ (17).When these get clogged or if you get sick, your sinuses have trouble processing correctly.

One of the oldest and most efficient ways to clear your sinuses out and move the detox process along is through steam therapy. By taking deep breaths in a hot and steamy shower, you can help clear your sinuses. Or you can dry boiling water, pouring it into a heat-proof bowl and leaning over it with a towel draped over your head, taking deep breaths in. Do this twice for 30 seconds, and your sinuses will clear in no time.

Aromatherapy

essential-oils

Aromatherapy uses essential oils taken from plants for healing. It can have a myriad of health benefits from relieving pain, improving mood and promoting a sense of relaxation (18). By simply massaging it into your skin, releasing the aromas it can help make you feel ten times better in no time. Try these different essential oils that smell divine and will help soothe anxiety!

Epsom Salt Bath

Epsom salt is high in magnesium; the second most abundant element in humans cells. Magnesium helps to regulate over 325 enzymes and helps with numerous bodily functions (20). It’s estimated that upwards of 80% of the population are deficient in Epsom salts- all the more reason to try this luxurious bath!

So whether you want to de-stress, improve your blood pressure or get that lymphatic system working properly then, you can certainly do it painlessly! Scratch the unhealthy cleanses and find a healthy way that suits you!
