At some point in life, we all get told the same thing – play time is over.

An incredible illustrator named Johanna Basford has recently released her second coloring book for adults entitled Enchanted Forest and it’s already a best-seller on Amazon. Her first book sold over 1.4 million copies worldwide. Apparently, adults love coloring books just as much as kids. Who knew?


Some people enjoy them because they are so relaxing, others like to buy multiple copies and experiment with different color schemes, and most everyone loves the feeling of nostalgia they get when they carefully fill in the lines. It’s like a coloring book time machine.

And the health science says… coloring books are good!

More and more studies suggest that all that talk of getting serious has been totally wrong. Coloring engages various parts of the brain as you focus on the lines and colors. It has been shown to help people de-stress, become more creative, and even strengthen relationships. Couples that play together stay together.

In fact, the science has become so convincing that just about everyone is trying to promote play of some sort. There’s a new ball pit for adults in London and laughter clubs in India. Some employers are even encouraging employees to take play breaks to help unlock their creativity.

Many people rebel against the notion that they have to quit playing as they grow older – for once, those crazy kids might just be right.
