Bernando LaPallo is 114 years old. Crazy!
Though science says that we owe much of our longevity to our genes, we also know lifestyle is very important. So it’s no surprise that Bernando leads an incredibly healthy life.
He goes for a mile and a half walk every morning, and believes in eating whole, raw foods as much as possible. He makes his own cinnamon out of bark. Fruits, vegetables and herbs make up the vast majority of his diet.
5 Foods A 114-Year-Old Eats Every Day
“Blueberries are tops,” in Bernando’s books. Rich in antioxidants, they’re great for your brain, immune system, metabolism and can reduce your risks of developing some types of cancer. There’s definitely good reason to think they’re “tops.”
Bernando makes his own so that he knows he’s getting the good stuff and enjoying all the health benefits. These include lowering your cholesterol and blood sugar, relieving inflammation and aiding digestion. Plus it’s delicious!
High in vitamin C and K, calcium and antioxidants, broccoli is one of Bernando’s go-to vegetables. It can help prevent cancer, improve heart and bone health, and alleviate your allergies.
Not surprisingly Bernando reaches for honey, rather than sugar, when he’s looking for a little sweetness. Hailed as a superfood, honey really is amazing for it’s antioxidants, anti-bacterial properties, and can even help your athletic ability.
“Next to blueberries” according to Bernando, because it is a great source of fiber, vitamin A and C, and antioxidants. It’s benefits include protecting your eye health, keeping you hydrated, and maintaining your skin and hair.
For a 114-year-old, Bernando looks amazing, has a phenomenal memory, and looks to be in better health than many 40 year-olds. I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely going to start eating more blueberries and broccoli.
