You know the feeling when you buy someone a gift for their birthday and you can’t wait to give it to them? This is one of the most raw, pure forms of happiness that humans can feel! Research has shown that people who spent money on themselves were less happy than those who spent the same amount on others.

Many people don’t see the happiness of others as a source of their own happiness, when in fact it plays a leading role in the happiness of many people (without them knowing it).

2. Be Excitable

Stop belittling things in your life and you’ll soon find that even simple objects, scenes, people, and events make you happy. Much like meditating, appreciating the world around you takes a lot of effort, but it’ll become second nature eventually.

Get excited about the stories people tell you, go on more walks and sit in silence more often. When you become amazed by the little things in life, you lose the need for luxurious items, and lavish entertainment (not that those are always bad things!)

3. Be Social

Socialize as much as you can! Join clubs, get a hobby, start a pick-up league or host more often. You may do all of these things but there’s a secret that many people don’t know. You may be there physically, but you have to be there mentally.

It’s gotten more difficult to engage with the people around us because of our dependency on technology, but you have to resist the temptation to check your phones. Be PRESENT when you’re socializing!

Studies show that interacting with people on deeper levels can boost your happiness! Deep connections cannot be had if you’re texting someone throughout dinner or half watching the game while chatting.
