Compared to other nuts, cashews contain a very low fat content, and are high in oleic acids that are extremely healthy for the heart. Cashews are also cholesterol free and have antioxidants that work to keep heart disease at bay.
Helps With Weight Loss
Although cashews are considered to be fats, they contain the good kind of cholesterol that doesn’t add extra weight. Studies have found that those who eat cashews at least twice a week gain less weight compared to those who do not.
Healthy Bones and Teeth
The magnesium content that’s present in cashew nuts is excellent for bone strength, much in the same way that calcium is.
Lowers High Blood Pressure
With the presence of magnesium, cashews are fantastic for helping to lower your blood pressure.
Cashews contain a class of flavonoids called proanthocyanidins, which help to fight against cancer by preventing tumor cells from dividing further. The high copper content also help to fight against cancerous cells, with colon cancer cells being a particular target.
Cleansing Cashew Milk Recipe
This recipe takes bit of time to make, since the cashews need to soak for about 4 hours. But don’t let that dissuade you! If you’ve got the foresight to make this homemade cashew milk, you won’t regret it. There’s nothing better then a fresh-made recipe that has no additives or preserves in it to compromise the benefits. One half cup of this amazing cashew milk every night will be enough to get all of the nutrients that you need!
- 1 cup cashews, soaked for 4 hours
- 3 cups filtered water
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup or coconut nectar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- To soak cashews, add cashews to a glass container and cover with water. Cover the container and place in the fridge for 4 hours. Once complete, pour into a strainer and rinse well.
- Add the cashews and all other ingredients to your high-powered blender and blend for 2 minutes.
- Transfer mixture to a glass container. Cover and chill for 4 hours.
This recipe makes approximately 3 cups of milk, or 6 servings (1/2 cup per serving). Will keep for 3-4 days in an airtight container in the fridge.
Note: honey can be substituted for maple syrup or coconut nectar in this recipe
