Let’s face it. The chia pet jokes are cute, but, completely over and done with. It’s time for the real star of the chia pets franchise to get its proper respect. Chia seeds do more than just make household statues look like they have funny hair. If you are serious about your health, here are 5 ways you can add the health benefits of chia seeds to your diet.

The Benefits Of Chia Seeds.

Chia seeds are amongst the few foods out there that have earned their title as a superfood.  Not only are they high in omega 3, they’re also a great source of protein. However, chia seeds have far more to offer than just protein.

Chia seeds are home to a host of powerful antioxidants; these antioxidants protect essential fats in your body and help fight the production of free radicals that can cause cancer.

When you sit back and think about it, it is a bit jarring to realize just how long you have been going without their health benefits in your life. Well, worry no more. What follows below will give you a few ideas on how you can begin seamlessly integrating chia seeds into your life.

1. As A Topping For Your Favorite Food.

Now, this tip might seem to be a bit obvious, but, it is also the easiest and most practical.  If you are looking to add chia seeds to your diet, using them as a topping for foods such as: yogurt, salad, or even cereal, is a great way to start. Since chia seeds do not have a strong flavor they go well with a variety of foods, especially foods with a pungent flavor.

It doesn’t matter if you are someone who loves to cook, or the kind of person who’d rather never see a cooking utensil. When it comes to the culinary arts, chia seeds are a friend to all.

2. Chia Seed Flour.

It can be difficult to replace staple foods that are high in gluten like bread and rice, but, not impossible.  One of the most innovative ways chia seeds can be used is as a replacement to flour, and because chia seeds are gluten free, they can fit comfortably into anyone’s diet.

Using a food processor or blender, grind whole chia seeds for about five minutes, or until you see they have become a grainy powder.

3. Sauces And Soups.

Another way to introduce chia seeds into your diet is to add them to soups and sauces. You can use whole or ground chia seeds. Both work great as an ingredient, but, ground chia seeds come with the added benefit of being able to thicken soups and sauces.

4. Meatballs or Meatloaf.

The versatility of this little seed is endless. As previously mentioned, ground chia seeds are a great replacement for gluten heavy ingredients like flour. Chia seeds are also an excellent replacement for gluten heavy binding agents like oats or breadcrumbs. Use about half the amount of chia seeds, ground or whole, for whatever the recipe calls for in bread crumbs.

5. Add To Morning Smoothie And Juices.

Ground chia seeds are perfect for adding some extra vitamins, proteins, and antioxidants into your morning beverage. Just sprinkle in one tablespoon of ground chia seeds into your morning smoothie or juice recipe for a delicious health kick to your day.

There is no doubt chia seeds are amazing for gardening, but with these 5 new ways to add them into your diet, chia seeds are sure to grow on you.
