Common New Year’s resolutions include eating better, exercising, and stopping smoking. But what about improving your sleep? Many people overlook the importance of sleep, but it is an integral part of maintaining overall good health. So, if improving your sleep wasn’t a priority before, why not make it one this year?

Here are three items that can help you achieve better sleep in 2018 – and they won’t break the bank in the meantime.

Himalayan salt lamps:

These salt lamps are seriously grown in popularity over the last couple of years. The claims suggest that these lamps can purify the air and promote an atmosphere conducive to sleep. Although there isn’t research to support these claims, many suggest that the warm glow emitted from the lamp is soothing and can promote relaxation, leading to improved sleep. Furthermore, many of these lamps can be purchased for less than $25.

Lavender plant:

There is a lot of research to suggest that lavender can help promote a good night’s sleep. The aroma of lavender has been shown to promote slow-wave deep sleep. Furthermore, the color of the flower can help boost mood during gloomy winter months. Even if you aren’t into plants, you can use lavender essential oils or even tea to promote the aroma of lavender. Prices for lavender plants and essential oils can vary greatly but still won’t break the bank.

Bed tent:

A bit on the pricier side, a bed tent is being hailed as a grown-up blanket fort. The logic behind the bed tent is to block out any light and other distractions that can interrupt your sleep. The price range of a bed tent is $130 to $200, which some may claim is pricey while others would suggest that you can’t put a price tag on a good night’s sleep.

If purchasing a tent for your bed isn’t a thing, you can invest in a much cheaper eye mask that still blocks out distractions and unwanted light. Ideally, you should invest in an eye mask that contours to your eyes because the added pressure to your eyes has been shown to promote REM sleep along with being more comfortable.

These are just some items that work to promote a better night’s sleep, but we’re sure there are plenty more on the market. Just don’t be fooled into purchasing items that are not proven to be effective. You will only be waste money and still won’t be able to sleep. Always read reviews and speak to others before making a large purchase.

On the other hand, if sleep-aid items aren’t helping you, then you may want to speak to your doctor about underlying medical conditions that may be present that are robbing you of your sleep.
