When it comes to the flu, there are so many ancient family recipes to cure it quick that it’s hard to keep track. The best remedy is always rest and lots of fluids, with one fluid drink in particular helping you get better even faster!

Natural Flu Remedy Tea

The tea is really simple to make and only consists of three ingredients: lemon, honey and onion.


Onion might seem like the odd one out on the list, but onions have amazing anti-inflammatory properties and antibiotics that help boost the immune system. Polysaccharides, a compound found in onions, help give it the antiviral properties necessary for fighting the cold and flu.

Lemons are high in vitamin C which helps your body’s immune system. They also reduce phlegm, the mucus built up in the throat. By reducing the phlegm, you reduce that persistent and annoying cough you get with the cold and flu.

Besides tasting great, honey treats irritations and itchiness. It has strong anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties as well that make it perfect for fighting off nasty diseases.

What you need

  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp. of honey
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cups of water

What to do

  1. Cut the onion into small, 15mm thick pieces and place in boiling water for 15 minutes
  2. Leave for 10 minutes to cool
  3. Strain and add honey
  4. Add the lemon juice and stir well
  5. Drink 3 times per day until symptoms go away


Don’t let the cold and flu get the best of you, fight back! Combine this with lots of rest and relaxation and you should be feeling right in no time at all.
