Hypnosis has been around for centuries. It was being used long before we ever started counting carbs, fat grams, or calories. However, very few people have made this age-old, attention-sharpening-and-focusing technique an integral part of their weight loss strategy.
While in the beginning there was little scientific evidence to support the legitimate claims of even the most respected hypnotists and hypnotherapists, today there are hundreds of peer-reviewed research studies that show that no matter the application, hypnosis works.
In fact, in the mid-nineties, at least 18 hypnotic studies were reanalyzed and determined that clients who learned self-hypnosis lost two times more weight than those who didn’t. And yet, even today hypnosis remains a largely untapped resource and a “hidden secret” for dropping those unwanted pounds.
Hypnosis is an effective approach to eliminating the stress and anxiety around our eating habits, which many other methods – including typical diets – do not address. Hypnosis enables you to change the way you think and feel about food, drink, and exercise – permanently.

We think and make decisions with our conscious mind, but our unconscious mind controls our habits. In hypnosis we communicate directly with the unconscious mind and reprogram it, making habit change easy.

These tools help keep us on track, and keep us from falling off the wagon, by helping us manage hunger and cravings. More importantly they have developed new healthy habits for eating, drinking and exercise which ensure that those unwanted pounds stay off permanently.
Tip to Implement: Pick the smallest, achievable task, action, or thing to work on, and do it consistently. So many times, we try to implement and change too much and end up failing across the board. When you pick the smallest successfully, achievable thing, you set yourself up for more and more success.
Focus On the Positive
When we start a “diet” or new way of eating, it’s easy to focus on all the things we can’t have. We tell ourselves that we “can’t have” and “shouldn’t have” the things we love, and in the beginning, our motivation may be enough to keep us away from those foods. But in the end, we typically give in to the cravings.
Instead of focusing on losing, deprivation, and denial of what we want, hypnosis can help us to focus on what we do want. We can keep the positive aspects and benefits of our weight loss and way of eating in mind. We can develop mantras and anchors that strengthen our resolve and empower us to stay our chosen course.
Tip to Implement: Make a list of all the benefits of losing weight or mastering your eating habits. Instead of focusing on all the things you can’t have, focus on the good things. What new foods will you be able to eat? What ailments might your changes eliminate? What will you be the most excited about? By focusing on the positive you make the task less “painful” to the subconscious mind, and it will be more likely to get onboard with your desired changes.
What is Imaginable Is Possible
If you can imagine it, it will come! This is one of the cornerstones of hypnosis. Athletes gearing up for a competition prepare themselves by visualizing victory. In the same vein, visualizing healthy eating and enjoyable physical activity creates the momentum that helps you manifest a fitter and healthier life ahead.
Hypnosis gives us a safe place to visualize, imagine, or picture our success. This mental rehearsal or practice communicates to our subconscious the outcome we desire. And since our subconscious mind does what it thinks we want it to do, this helps us reprogram our mind to act in ways that help us achieve what we want.
It is possible to achieve the permanent weight loss we desire, because hypnosis provides a fast, safe and supportive solution to excess weight and the emotions and habits that give rise to it.
Tip to implement: Visualize, imagine, picture or pretend. Try to envision your best possible outcome. Be as specific as you can and incorporate all five of your senses. Really submerge yourself in how you will feel when you accomplish your goal. Think of this as “practice” for achieving what you really want. Visualize yourself in scenarios where you confidently and successfully make the choices you need to make to actualize and manifest your goal. In your mind’s eye, imagine saying no to that cake or those brownies. Bathe your senses in what it would feel like to be successful and you’ll be programming your mind with the outcomes you want to achieve.
