You might be familiar with Jon Voight from movies like Anaconda, Holes, and Deliverance, but did you know he’s also just a stand-up guy? Born in 1938, he has been nominated for four Academy Awards, and he’s won one so far in his lifetime. He is known as the father of Angelina Jolie, but there’s so much more to this good samaritan. On the Friday of Thanksgiving, he embarked on an act of kindness when he bought a stranger’s groceries for her.
The Home for the Innocents
Sydney Gholston, 28, was helping the cashier ring in her turkeys that she was buying for the home she works for, called the Home of the Innocents when someone chimed in from behind her. The voice asked “You must have a big family. That’s an awful lot of turkeys,”. She then explained that she works for a home for kids in crisis. And he was very interested in learning more.
At first, when she recognized him he joked around. She pointed out that he looked a lot like Angelina Jolie’s father, and he said “Why would I look like that?.
Doing a good deed
Sydney works as the director of food and nutritional services at the home, which is a non-profit that offers help to kids who are medically fragile as well as children who are victims of abuse, abandonment, and neglect. When she met Voight, she was trying to buy six turkeys for the home for a Thanksgiving celebration, and Voight offered to buy all six for her.
Thankful for the generosity
The encounter was very friendly; she thanked him, and they took a picture together which was shared on the homes Facebook page, writing that “Jon generously paid for the turkeys to feed our kids next week!” Adding, “We are so thankful for his generosity!”
The turkeys that Jon Voight bought will go to feeding about 70 children at the home which is located in Louisville, Kentucky. To learn more about this beautiful organization, head to their website here.
