There has been a recent spike in drug overdoses over the last couple of years. The most shocking part of this is the number of teenage deaths that are associated with drug abuse.
The finger is being pointed in two directions, but more so at the big pharmaceutical companies that have been inflating their sales by making products available. The second finger is being pointed at drug dealers, as usual.
But it seems there is a new threat that has captivated the attention of America’s youth. The killer pharmaceutical drugs that have flooded the streets can be found almost anywhere. Making products like this readily available has proven costly for the country.
Numbers don’t lie
There were 23,000 pharmaceutical drug related deaths last year. This accounts for more than half of the drug related deaths. This goes to show you who the real bad guy is out on the streets.
Researchers have conducted studies that show why these teens, in specific, are choosing legal drugs over illegal drugs, not that they’re much better. It seems teens are overwhelmed with emotion and anxiety, which in itself is a major problem for parents.
Parents must be careful when they leave their prescription drugs lying around. It’s not bad enough that they can find these drugs in the streets, but they can also find them around the house.
Do something about it
It seems the problem could be that people aren’t educated on the potential harm these drugs can cause. It would do everyone some good if they paid attention to the number of deaths associated with pharmaceutical drugs, just so the danger can be put into perspective.
The next step would be to stop these big companies from flooding our streets with this garbage. How many kids are going to have to die until the people do something about this issue? We as a society must get these teens the help they need before they turn to drugs.
Devastating isn’t a strong enough of word to describe the amount of drug related deaths over the last couple of years. The only thing that could make this situation worse is if that number rises. Put a stop to this, these kids could use all the help they can get.
