Getting older can be a bit of a pain, especially when it’s accompanied by menopause. Menopause is a natural part of a woman’s life, but its marked by all kinds of unpleasant symptoms like anxiety, hot flushes and irritability. While menopause is pretty inevitable, suffering through these unpleasant side effects doesn’t have to be.

According to researchers at the Tokyo Medical University, a new study has shown that a drinking glass of tomato juice a day can have amazing potential to alleviate the symptoms of menopause.

A Glass of Tomato Juice A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

Researchers at the university conducted a study in which 93 menopausal women were given 200 mL of tomato juice twice a day for eight weeks in a row. During the study, the women had their blood pressure, heart health, and other markers checked at regular intervals. By the end of the study, data revealed that menopausal symptoms from hot flashes to irritability had almost halved.

It wasn’t just menopausal symptoms that were helped by this simple tomato juice regimen. Further investigation revealed that the women burned off more calories while at rest (that is, there wasn’t a noticeable increase in activity that could otherwise explain it), and blood fat levels went impressively down.

Natural Estrogen Supplement

Previous research that has been done on the effects of tomato juice suggest that there are chemicals in tomato juice, such as gamma-aminobutyric acid that act in a way that is similar to the hormone estrogen. Taking hormone supplements has long been a fairly common way that women have used to cure their menopausal symptoms. Taking estrogen supplements is a form of hormone replacement therapy, and it artificially continues to supply the body with estrogen after the body stops doing so after menopause.

The Danger of Prescription Estrogen

Over-the-counter estrogen supplements have a fair amount of health benefits for the user, and they have been effective in easing the emotional and physical symptoms of menopause. However, they can be dangerous to use. A large clinical trial of a combination estrogen-progestin pill was found to increase the risk of several serious conditions like heart disease, stroke, blood clots, and breast cancer.

As you age and are put an increasing risk to serious illnesses anyways, taking artificial hormone supplements may not be a very viable or sensible option for you to pursue. This means the results of this study on tomato juice may be good news for a lot of people. If tomato juice can operate in a similar way to the natural estrogen hormone, women dealing with menopause will no longer have to rely on dangerous, artificial ways to deal with their menopausal symptoms. If you’re undergoing menopause, consider trying this tomato juice regimen suggested by the Tokyo Medical University. Don’t let menopause get the best of you! Fight it naturally.
