Trends come and go, and that’s true of house decorations as well. Sometimes that paint color, light fixture, or flooring that looked really in style turns out to be a huge eyesore down the road. One man became so sick of his popcorn style ceiling that he decided he couldn’t wait another minute to get rid of it- and he did it without spending a single dollar!
I don’t have to tell you how expensive home renovations can be, especially if you’re not very handy yourself and have to call in the experts. So whenever I hear about reno hacks that make the job super easy, I just have to share them with people just like me!
This clever gentleman’s trick isn’t just affordable, it easily removes the bumpy popcorn ceiling in literally minutes and leaves zero mess behind. Don’t believe me? Watch his how-to video below:
All you have to do is duct tape a spackle knife on the edge of a vacuum cleaner (he uses a shop vac in this video, but if your regular vacuum cleaner has a long enough reach, go for it!) and scrape the popcorn off. The vacuum will automatically suck up any dust or crumbs, so it’s a lot better than what most people do, which is spray water on the ceiling and then spend hours cleaning up the mess they made on the floor.
If you like, you can add an extra step of spraying the ceiling with water first to eliminate even more dust floating around the air (you don’t want to be breathing that stuff in).
If you’re using your own regular vacuum cleaner, remember to empty out the bag/cylinder often to keep the suction strong and the mess of the ground. Afterward, you’ll be able to paint over your new smooth ceiling without a hassle.
