Renting one of these homes costs just $590 per month- a far cry from the amount it costs to live in most cities around the world. Applicants are expected to commit to staying for a minimum of two years. (1)

The Isle of Rum is a National Nature Reserve. If you choose to apply, you must like wildlife: the houses share the land with a number of local animals, including (1, 2):

  • Deer
  • Wild goats
  • Ponies
  • White- and golden-tailed eagles
  • Dolphins
  • Eider ducks

Though English is spoken on the island, those interested in applying should be prepared to hear some Gaelic and Lallans, as well. (3) Perhaps you’ll even pick up a word or two of these ancient languages.
