Skin care products can be incredibly expensive, not to mention potentially ineffective or dangerous. If you want products with natural ingredients, you’ll have to pay even more. You can make your own skin care products with the same healthy ingredients for a fraction of the price. Try one of these five DIY recipes for natural skin care:
1. Homemade Stretch Mark Cream
This easy recipe can help prevent stretch marks when you are pregnant. Use it if you’re interested in keeping your belly smooth and blemish-free.
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- 2 Tbsp cocoa butter
- 2 tsp vitamin E oil
- 10 drops frankincense essential oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
- ½ oz beeswax
Put the beeswax, cocoa butter, and coconut oil in a microwave safe dish, and heat in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until well combined. Allow the mixture to cool, then pour into a mixer. Add the vitamin E oil, frankincense, and lavender, then blend until fluffy and mixed. Store in an airtight container. The cream will be thick, but if you want it to stay firm, you should store it in the fridge. Get the recipe at Freebie Finding Mom.
2. Makeup Remover Wipes
This is a super simple recipe that will save you a ton of money on makeup remover wipes. It is easy to make and easy to use. Don’t make too many ahead of time, however. The wipes could get soggy over time, making them unusable.

3. Homemade Tiger Balm
Tiger balm is great for small aches and pains, and you can make it yourself to save a ton of money. This recipe involves a handful of essential oils.
- ½ oz emu oil
- ½ oz beeswax
- 2 oz olive oil
- 5 drops clove essential oil
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
- 5 drops vetiver essential oil
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil
- 10 drops wintergreen essential oil
- 10 drops eucalyptus oil
Carefully melt beeswax and olive oil together in a double boiler. Remove from heat, and add in the essential oils one at a time as it is cooling. Allow to cool completely, then store. Rub a small amount on the affected area for minor aches and pains. Get the recipe at The Homesteading Hippy.
4. Lavender-Chamomile Sleepy Time Lotion
Applying this lotion before bed will help you drift off to sleep with ease. Keep it by your bedside, or apply it in the bathroom before you go to sleep.
- 3 oz solid coconut oil
- 6 oz liquid jojoba oil
- lavender essential oil
- 1 ½ oz grated beeswax
- 8 oz distilled water
- 5 tsp chamomile flowers
- 5 tsp lavender buds
Put the chamomile flowers and lavender buds in a double boiler, then pour the jojoba oil over them and bring the water to a gentle boil. Infuse the oil for about two hours continuously, stirring occasionally. Then, strain the oil through a cheesecloth and get rid of the herbs. Bottle the oil, you’ll need it later.
Set up a double boiler again, and combine the coconut oil with your infused jojoba oil, along with the grated beeswax. Melt them all together, then blend them. Remove from heat and allow to cool. When it has cooled to body temperature, heat up the distilled water to body temperature and pour it into a tall container. Slowly pour a thin stream of the oil into the water. A cream will begin to form. Add the lavender essential oil a few drops at a time, and smooth it out by mixing with a whisk. Store in a sealed container, and apply before bed. Get the recipe at Everyday Roots.
5. Avocado Cucumber and Oats Soap
This soap is easy to make, and smells great. It combines the flavors of avocado, cucumber, and melon, for a delicious aroma you’ll love to clean with.
- avocado cucumber soap base
- cucumber melon fragrance
- ¼ cup oats
- rectangle soap mold
Add the desired amount of soap base to a double boiler, stirring frequently. Add the amount of fragrance and oats you think works best, and stir until combined. Pour the soap into the molds, then let cool for at least 40 minutes. When the soap is completely set, remove from the mold and store. Soap makes great gifts, and you can use it for yourself.
