You’ve spent all winter indoors, and now a new season threatens to keep you inside just a little bit longer: Spring.
Spring is the season of new beginnings…aka it’s time to clean everything! It can be overwhelming to think of all the things you have to sweep, mop, scrub, sort and re-organize in your home.
Luckily, there are seven clever shortcuts to make spring cleaning a cinch. You’ll be outside enjoying the fresh air in no time.
1. Get Supplies That Do More Than One Thing
The more multipurpose your cleaning equipment are, the less time you have to spend prepping your cleaning supplies.
2. Start Easy
If you try to tackle the crumby crevices of your kitchen or the caked-on crusts in your oven first, it may overwhelm you. Start cleaning a low traffic area that you can quickly cross off your to-do list. This will help you stay motivated.
3. Premeditate Your Cleaning
Always clean from top-to-bottom and from back-to-front. You don’t want to vacuum only to put dirt back on the carpet while you’re cleaning the shelves, and you certainly don’t want to end up walking on the floor you just mopped.
4. Use The Most Efficient Product For The Job
For example, when cleaning wallpapered or painted surfaces, microfiber mops are ideal for cobweb and dust removal. Also, skip the newspaper and use an eyeglass-grade microfiber cloth to get those streak-free windows we all love, but don’t want to bump into.
5. Make Use of Your Washer and Dryer
Throw window curtains in a cool dryer for 15 minutes. The dryer will shake all that dust off your curtains for you, freeing you up to do additional cleaning elsewhere. Hang your curtains immediately afterwards to avoid wrinkling.
Toss shower curtains in the washer with a few fluffy towels and laundry detergent. Then, put them in the dryer on low heat for 10 minutes to soften your curtains and iron out wrinkles.
6. Cut Corners With Carpet Cleaning
To clean carpeted stairs, where a rubber dish glove and rub your fingers along the edges of each step to bring up dirt. Vacuum the dirt up after.
7. Finally, Tackle the Oven
Get a baking soda and water paste going and apply it to the walls and floor of your stove. Fill a spray bottle with vinegar, spray the inside of your oven, and then wipe your oven down. No hard scrubbing here!
