Near-death experiences are often met with skepticism, and doubt, especially when those who claim to have had them have no actual evidence to back up their story. For one such person, Zach Tavcar, an image emerged that would remarkably validate his surreal experience, defying the conventional.
A Life-Changing Diagnosis

A life coach and personal trainer from Reno, Nevada, Zach Tavcar was just 14 when he was diagnosed with leukemia. Leukaemia is a form of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow. This complete life-altering near-death experience in Zach’s life, led to intensive treatments, including a steroid called prednisone. As much as the medication helps to reduce inflammation, it causes so many significant side effects such as brittle bones.
The First Signs of the Experience

Throughout his treatments, Zach suffered through multiple small fractures throughout his spine. There was one such particular incident when he went along with his younger brother and father to have a special back brace fitted. What started off as a routine appointment with his specialist son turned into something different.
“I was probably there about 15 minutes, and this fuzziness just started getting heavier and heavier,” Zach recounted. He had been feeling unwell, to the point where it was unbearable. He rushed towards his father’s truck, but as he attempted this, he suddenly collapsed with no explanation as to what could be happening.
The Tunnel of Light

As he opened his eyes, he found himself in an illuminated tunnel filled with “goldy, silvery, white, flowing energy.” While in this ethereal space, he spotted a figure in a trench coat. “I just was enamored in this space, like, whoa, what is this? Feeling completely at peace. No concern, no worry,” Zach described.
As he stepped forward, he immediately recognized the figure to be his grandfather whom he had lost seven years ago. The inaudible conversation that followed was deeply moving. “He just told me, everything’s gonna be OK, you’re gonna get through everything, you just have to keep going,” Zach recalled. In this near-death experience, time seemed to have stood still until he was abruptly “sucked back” into his body.
A Frightened Family

As Zach awoke, he found his terrified brother and father back in the physical world. “I opened my eyes, and there’s my dad [with a] terrified face, just like, ‘Whoa, what the heck?’ And my little brother… as terrified as could be,” he said. Although Zach was deeply impacted by his experience, he chose to sit and internalize what he’d seen and heard, keeping it private in fear of how his father would respond.

Sharing the Near-Death Experience

When Zach finally decided to open up to his father about what had happened, he was absolutely blown away by the details. Since Zach had never known his late grandfather to wear a trench coat, eyebrows were raised. However, his father’s curiosity pushed Zach to reveal his encounter.
“What did he tell you? What did he look like?” His father questioned. Zach’s description was vivid but perplexing. “I’ve never seen grandpa wear a trench coat before,” he explained to his father as he recounted the experience in finer detail.
Photographic Evidence

It was months later when Zach happened upon one of his late grandfather’s old photographs from his time in Prague, a time from his younger years. The image looked to be of him in his late twenties, dressed in the identical trench coat he had described from his near-death experience.
“So that was my validation that what I did experience was very real,” Zach said. This discovery stunned his brother and father, being something neither of them had known him for in his last few years. His grandfather was a professional chemist, typically dressed in suits – far from this image.
Finding Purpose Beyond the Near-Death Experience

Zach overcame his leukemia and made use of his transformative journey to launch his very own career. He decided to become a mind-body-spirit coach and certified exercise physiologist. He has used this to help others navigate their very own physical and spiritual well-being.
As Zach reflects on his near-death experience, he has come to terms with the fact that this was no hallucination. I think [my dad] was surprised by that too,” he remarked. He emphasized how the photograph of his grandfather in his late twenties aligned perfectly with his vision.
Bridging Worlds

Zach Tavcar’s encounter piques the curiosity about the mystery and potential reality of near-death experiences. For those who may be skeptical, his encounter offers food for thought: can such profound encounters truly be dismissed? For Zach, after his very own experience, he stands true to his belief in the connection made between this life and the next.
