Who Created the Statue?

Thomas J. Price, a British sculptor, focuses on breaking down old ideas about who should appear in public art. He creates fictional characters who represent real people, especially those often left out of galleries and monuments. He grew up in London and uses what he sees around him as inspiration. Grounded in the Stars is one of several works in his ongoing series, but this piece marks his largest public installation in the United States. He worked with the Times Square Arts to bring it to Times Square. Price wants people to question who gets to stand tall in public places. By placing this statue in a location full of constant movement, the new Times Square statue challenges viewers to stop and think differently about public monuments.
