Friends Take Dream Vacation Only To Suddenly Start ‘Jerking’ And Become Dangerously Sick

Two Oklahoma college students, Zara Hull and Kaylie Pitze, embarked on what was supposed to be a dream vacation in Cancun, Mexico, with their boyfriends. What started as an exciting getaway quickly turned into a terrifying ordeal. After enjoying a day at the beach, the group headed to the resort pool where Zara and Kaylie ordered a glass of water from the pool bar. Moments later, the girls suddenly slumped over, with Zara experiencing ‘jerking movements’—a clear sign that something was terribly wrong.1

The girls were immediately sent to their rooms in wheelchairs. Kaylie later recounted, “We were out, couldn’t walk, couldn’t talk, couldn’t do anything.” The following morning, Kaylie woke up feeling nauseous and unable to move, while Zara was already in a Mexican hospital after being found convulsing in her stomach.2 The severity of their symptoms left them and their loved ones in shock, struggling to comprehend what had happened on their vacation.

Medical Emergency and Exploitation at the Hospital

Upon arriving at the hospital, Mexican officials demanded a $10,000 deposit before they would even begin treating Zara. Despite this, Zara continued to experience seizures throughout the night, and the hospital staff intubated her, claiming it was necessary for an MRI. Zara’s boyfriend, Jake, was forced to pay $200 just to stay in a room at the hospital overnight. Her family later alleged that the hospital was not actually treating Zara, but rather keeping her heavily sedated.

Zara’s family and friends reached out to the U.S. Embassy, who advised them to get her back from their vacation as quickly as possible. However, the hospital staff continued to demand more money to release her, and the cost of an air ambulance to bring Zara back home reached a staggering $26,000. Zara’s family was told that the charges would only continue to increase until they were paid.

The Ordeal Continues Back Home

Even after Zara was finally transported back to the United States, the ordeal was far from over. U.S. hospitals initially refused to admit her because the Mexican hospital would not send over her medical paperwork. Eventually, Zara was admitted and began making some progress. She was taken off a ventilator and was able to communicate with her family and healthcare team. However, she remains in a neurology unit as doctors continue to assess the extent of her condition.

A Devastating Financial and Emotional Toll

Zara’s family has already spent over $60,000 between getting her back to the U.S. and paying for her medical treatments. Despite this, they still have no clear answers about what happened. They suspect that Zara and Kaylie’s water was spiked with synthetic fentanyl, a powerful and dangerous drug. The situation has caused immense anxiety and stress for both families, as they grapple with the possibility that Zara’s health may never fully recover from their vacation.

“Pray This Never Happens to Your Family”

The families involved are now urging other parents to be cautious about allowing their children to go on such vacations. They emphasize the dangers of young people, especially girls, being unknowingly drugged, and the potential for trafficking and extortion. “Hug your babies tight tonight and pray this never happens to your family,” Zara’s boyfriend’s mother, Stephanie Snider, said in a heartfelt plea to others^1†source.
