‘Right-sized’ prefab smart home now available to order

As different types of tiny homes continue to pop up everywhere, one thing remains clear: people are highly interested in alternative living. They want a home that is better for both the environment and their bank account that allows them to live larger with less. If DIY home-building isn’t your thing, however, perhaps these eco-friendly, made-to-order prefab smart homes are.

The New Eco-Friendly Prefab Smart Homes

Presented at CES 2018 by Green Builder Media, the Flex Home is every environmental enthusiast’s dream home. The Flex Home (1, 2):

  • Is a fully integrated smart home and solar system that works to make your home as energy-efficient as possible.
  • Has its own microgrid so that it produces all of its own energy.
  • Uses water-conserving products and fixtures to use as little water as possible.
  • Is made entirely of non-toxic, sustainable materials inside and out.

The Flex House is 760 square feet in size, already making it more efficient than a traditional home. From there, it uses high-efficiency lighting, appliances, HVAC systems, and water heating. The water heater divides the home into separate zones so that heating and cooling occur only when and where they are needed. The thermostat and HVAC are set up with the smart home system so that they can be controlled via a smartphone or voice commands. (1, 2)

The goal of the Flex Home is to be net-zero for carbon emissions and help people live a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle. The prefab has been designed to support the use of Hybrid cars so homeowners can drive as efficiently as they live. (1, 2)
