Whenever you take a deep-dive into house cleaning, you’re almost guaranteed to find some reminder of a time gone past. Sometimes these memories are happy ones, others are more bittersweet.
Bittersweet is the best way to describe what Zelda Williams found while doing some quartine-cleaning at her home.
Old photos bring back fond memories
While cleaning and tidying, Zelda found an old polaroid strip from a photo booth session she did with her father, Robin Williams, when she was around 16 or 17 years old. The beloved comedian passed away in 2014. (1)
She shared the find with her followers on Twitter along with the caption “Isolation spring deep cleaning is turning up some fun old gems.” The four-photo strip shows the pair smiling, laughing, and just being silly together. A true, precious, father-daughter moment. (1, 2)
The pain of losing a loved one never fully goes away
The death of Robin Williams was one that shocked and saddened his fans from around the world. Nothing, however, compares to how hard his passing has been on his family. Zelda has been pretty open with her following about her struggle, particularly around times such as her father’s birthday. (1)
In 2018, she posted a beautiful photo of herself and her father coupled with a long caption explaining how she felt during this difficult time of year and thanking her father’s fans for loving and supporting him, even now after he is gone. (1)
“It’s that time of year again. Everyone who has dealt with loss knows the pain of certain anniversaries, moments full of memory that come round like clockwork and usurp all others, no matter how hard you may try to prepare for or avoid them. These weeks are the hardest for me, and thus, you’ll see me a lot less, if at all. For all the internet’s good intentions in expressing to me their fondness for dad, it’s very overwhelming to have strangers need me to know how much they cared for him right now. It’s harder still to be expected to reach back. So while I’ve got the strength, consider this my one open armed response before I go take my yearly me time to celebrate his and my birthdays in peace. Thank you for loving him. Thank you for supporting him and his life’s work. Thank you for missing him. I do too.” (1)
Zelda also let her fans know that the best way for them to honor her late father is to do something good. Volunteer, do a random act of kindness or donate to a local charity organization. (1)
“If you’d like to do something in his honor, volunteer at your local homeless shelter, or look up how to make homeless aid backpacks. Give one in his name. He’d have loved that.” (1)
Clearly, the big heart that Robin Williams was known for has been passed down to his daughter.
