One Thing You Don’t Want To Do While Buying Bananas

Bananas are a healthy source of nutrients- and usually, there are relatively inexpensive. Buying bananas is the way to go. And let’s be honest, grocery shopping does make most of us quite giddy with the experience. But, we do need to make sure that we are buying the best product possible- as people regularly manipulate them, especially in the produce section.

One of the ways through which people manipulate food in the produce section is by tearing the items off their sealed packets to take however many they want. Since some products are sold in bigger quantities than one would buy, there are people who would take the quantity that they need and dump the rest back on the shelves. As it happens, the food gets wasted- for no one wants to buy products where the seal is broken, and no one would really purchase things in 3s or 4s. In the case of bananas, they are usually sold in hands of 6 or 8. So even if your recipe or diet calls for just two of them, you should purchase them all.

If You Are Buying Bananas, Purchase Them In A Bunch

According to All Recipes, it would be prudent for one to be buying bananas by the dozen. It doesn’t matter if one can’t find a use for them immediately. If you simply buy a pair and discard the rest, they will not be sold. They will simply rot in their section. If you purchase them, they can be used for other recipes. For example, if you wait for the extra bananas to ripen up, you would be able to use them to create your moist banana bread recipe. It wouldn’t go amiss to state those bananas also make for great sauces, breakfasts, and puddings.

Yet another option, according to BBC Good Food, would be to freeze the extra bananas. The website claims that frozen bananas are edible for close to six months after one freezes them. So if one wants to skip out on the banana bread, you should ideally start freezing them. The process is quite simple- all one needs to do is peel the bananas first, and then store them in a tray until the fruit is completely solid. Finally, one has to put them in a freezer bag and keep it in the freeze- along with other indications like storage date and quantity. Frozen bananas make for amazing ice cream or smoothies.
