These ladies are still young at heart, and boy, do they know how to have fun!
At the Milton Lodge Retirement Home in Colchester, Essex, England the Staff runs a Sparkle Initiative for their elderly residents. They contribute money to surprise their charges with a single wish. Joan Corp, an 89-year-old resident led a revolution in the home in October last year. They wanted to be served dinner by some hot, muscular stripper-butlers. The staff were bewildered by the weird request and assumed she was just pulling their legs. When all the 11 ladies in the house started requesting for the same thing, the management knew Joan had masterminded a powerful plan. However, after a few weeks, they made the ladies’ dreams come true. And to make things even better, the women got to invite their daughters and granddaughters to attend the free show!
“Whenever you ask Joan what she wants that day she always says ‘a man’,” said Claire Martin, activities coordinator at the Milton Lodge to Mail Online [1]. “So we weren’t surprised when she wanted it to be her wish. We had a chat here and everyone was really keen to support it.”
The men of Hunks in Trunks must have been stunned out of their minds when they were told where they’d be working that weekend. Hunks in Trunks is a British butler service that supplies nude (or mostly nude) butlers for special occasions. They usually work birthdays and bachelorette parties, where girls want to ‘wild it out’ one more time before they tie the knot. An assisted living facility, however, must have been a whole new dimension. They came nonetheless, and it was mad fun all through [2].
“They had a three-course meal with a roast dinner. The ladies’ daughters and granddaughters came,” Martin said. “We asked them to do some harmless flirting, it doesn’t matter how old you are, so why not?”
A day to be young again
The staff knew they’d accomplished their mission as the ladies giggled like teenage girls all night. The women deserve to feel excited and young again once in a while. Most of them are dealing with dementia, loneliness, and sundowning. Although they are well catered for, living in a care facility can have its mental downsides. It was all harmless fun, and the ladies got to laugh their hearts out poking at the butlers. One old lady even tried to pull the loin apron off of one butler. Naughty girl!
The butlers didn’t just stop at serving dinner. Every lady got her chance to be deep-massaged by expert hands. It was an experience they wouldn’t live down in a while.
99-year-old Dolly Jenkins, the oldest resident in the home, immediately requested that the guys be brought back for her 100th birthday party.
“After it had all finished, Dolly told the staff she wanted them back for her 100th birthday, so we are going to have them back,” Martin said. “They didn’t stop laughing the whole night, they absolutely loved it.”
82-year-old Gladys Smith didn’t regret her choice of taking the front seat. “I had the front seat. It made quite a change and the boys done well. It was a good evening.” That was the idea behind the whole set up. To give the ladies a change of activities.
The backlash on social media
While many people found it hilarious and sweet that the staff would grant such a request, some others found it distasteful and accused the management of misplacing their priorities. Some even found it sexist and denigrating to men.
“Shocking exploitation! Obviously, they didn’t willingly choose to do this – and aren’t knowingly and willingly taking full advantage of their physical attractiveness. They were probably coerced and vulnerable, manipulated into taking their clothes off. Oh wait… hang on… that’s only true when it’s women.”
One comment read on Daily Mail. It’s not clear how he came with this off-point conclusion even with the joy on the ladies’ faces, but everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Some people thought it was “low-class” and “shameful” of the agency. However, the facility’s management isn’t discouraged by these negative comments. If the ladies request another naked butler night, their wish would be granted again. The Milton Lodge is one of the highest-rated care homes in England [3]. People have attested to the high quality care their parents are given. They live in one another’s friendly companionship and are also treated with dignity, respect, and love by the staff.
According to Trui Snee, director of Milton Lodge, “Life doesn’t stop because you are in a care home. We will continue to do this as a team and go above and beyond.”
The ladies certainly know how to flex their golden ages.
